The studio was commissioned by the arts organisation Space to design and build an exhibition as a finale to a series of workshops called We-dom, run by us, in collaboration with Namuun Zimmerman, Rike Glaser and Thor Ter Kulve. The project concerned the students’ responses to two local high streets and involved the production of moulds and casting of plaques and tiles. The work showcased was made by year 10 students of Space’s educational outreach programme, sponsored by Bloomberg.
Challenged by a large exhibition space on Mare Street in Hackney, and limited resources, we marked each stage of the process with an accompanying photographic record.
This was further emphasised by varying the heights of the plinths, built from an economic soft wood, and unifying the entire exhibition with a simple colour palette of tonal blues.
